I know, I’m the only person in the world who is just figuring out that the Flu is Bad. Aside from this whole chronic neurological thing, I don’t get sick very much. I’ve always figured germs were for other people – like my husband and children. But when all of the above got the flu recently, so did I – five days of utter, fever-ridden misery. And of course fever means reduced neurological function; in this case, I couldn’t even roll over by myself in bed, and since everybody else was sick, too, there wasn’t a whole lot of sympathy to go around. I assumed that this fever was like getting too hot in the shower – once I cooled down, I’d get better. Nope. Two weeks later I still can barely sit up from a lying down position, and I can’t stand to transfer, which means I have to rethink getting in and out of bed, in and out of the shower, in and out of the car…Sometimes my life seems like a broken record.
