Stephen Kuusisto points out that we are different:
I’m blind and I’m different. I don’t like being different on every occasion for in fact I don’t like the business of being stared at when I walk into a new barbershop. No one likes this. But letting this go can be done. You simply tell yourself:”I’m the most interesting thing to happen to these sad barbers at least for today.”
I was out for lunch the other day, and saw someone I know in a completely different context. He was busy, so I just waved and moved on. When I saw him yesterday he apologized for being surprised when he saw me not speaking to me, and I said something like, “Well, I look pretty weird out there,” to which he replied, “You look pretty weird everywhere.”
So true.
