We got an e-mail from the dean announcing the same offer here at NYU. My first thought was, “What a wonderful idea.” And then I realized, “How awfully generous, to extend such a kind offer that will bring in an extra 30-some-odd grand a year from each recipient of such selfless generosity.” Practical, yes. Generous? Not so much.
I agree, generous is not the first thing that springs to mind. But those students were going to college somewhere, and it seems to me that the normal bureaucracy of trying to enroll in a new school in an emergency situation could easily cost a student an entire semester, if not a whole year. So I appreciate the cutting of red tape.
Locally, CU is doing expedited enrollment, as are other universities around the country.
