This is right up there with the woman phone. ← Previous post Next post → 5 Comments Jenn 16 Mar 2004 at 17.43 Ugh. It’s bad enough that Volvo had a concept car at a recent show that was designed “for women by women” and included a front end that could only be opened by a Volvo mechanic. Sheesh. Having worked in support of technology for many years, I would have loved a printer with a handle to make it easier to carry about the office but I find it truly weird that this feature is somehow considerd only women friendly. The cell phone concept is just plain sad…I understand Patricia’s feelings. I LIKE getting under the hood of my car, I loathe pink (I’m a redhead — can’t wear it), and I can tuck my printer under my arm quite nicely if I need to carry it somewhere, thank you very much. I know things are better, but there’s still a pervasive attitude in the tech fields that uterus=”slow, so make it simple, with pretty lights.” Blargh. Reply ↓ Katja 21 Mar 2004 at 14.18 Roberto! Great to see you back in the building! I like your point – it reminds me of the unintended side effects of modifications for wheelchair access: lo and behold, when a ramp is built it’s used perhaps by a few wheelchair users but also by lots of folks with strollers, people delivering big packages, bicyclists, skateboarders, rollerbladers, etc. So don’t market this stuff as “women’s stuff”, market it as convenient for anyone.
