My coworkers are joining in the good fight for accessibility – went to a local Mexican restaurant with a couple of the guys from work. The parking lot has over 50 spaces, only one permit space, and it’s just a regular size space, no access aisle, certainly not van-accessible. I asked the restaurant host where I could find the landlord, and the answer was upstairs … and there’s no elevator. My colleague offered to go up and get the landlord down, by whatever means necessary. Luckily force was not required; I talked to the landlord on the phone and he said he had no idea he wasn’t in compliance, but that he wanted to be. He suggested taking the space next to it as the access aisle. I mailed him the Department of Justice’s ADA Guide for Small Businesses, and we’ll see if he does anything.
